The Love, Hope and Gratitude Foundation is a charity and relies on the generous help and commitment of volunteers.
The Foundation is establishing the Lavender Cottage, a Community Care facility, in Mount Barker, South Australia, with a café and pre-loved items shop which will initially be open three days a week to the general public. All going well, the cottage will be operational from early September 2018. The cottage will welcome local homeless people and others in need, and provide facilities for a shower and clothes washing as needed throughout the week. Funds raised through sales in the café and pre-loved items shop will be used for ongoing management of the cottage and a safe house for women and their children seeking supportive, secure shelter in Mount Barker that are escaping domestic violence and abuse. This is the first operational safe house in the Adelaide hills and is already providing assistance to women in need, made possible by a generous donation of short term funding until the Lavender Cottage is up and running.
Volunteers are currently needed to help set up the café and shop, and sort donations before the cottage officially ‘opens for business’ and then to assist in day to day operations. This is a great project to help our local community.
Pre-opening volunteers Required in August 2018 Volunteers are needed for a couple of hours or an afternoon, to sort donations of clothes and household goods to set up the cottage and kitchen. Also, the garden needs to be landscaped and a working bee will be arranged to assist the wonderful landscaper who has volunteered her services to help transform the garden.
Volunteers required for the café and pre-loved items shop from September 2018 Following the launch in spring we will need volunteers to work in the café and pre-loved items shop area on the days we are open to the public, for a period of 2 hours, 4 hours or 6 hours and just one session per week, fortnight or month will be gratefully appreciated. A coffee machine has been kindly donated to the cafe, and training will be offered for volunteers who will work in our kitchen following our opening. The training, at Regency Park, will be done in August and we will do our best to schedule the training at a time suitable for our volunteers.
A roster needs to be drawn up soon and to assist the Volunteer Coordinator prepare the roster, please complete the questionnaire below.
